Isis Hospital - a unit of SCI Healthcare - provides clients with the latest in medical expertise and technology. Our embryology team has decades of experience with all facets of IVF and embryology, and enjoys a higher than average success rate. Some 75 per cent of our donor/surrogacy clients have a positive pregnancy result on their first try, more than 90 per cent achieve pregnancy with a second try. Very few clients need to try more than twice. Our self-cycling clients are achieving pregnancy where, oftentimes, previous IVF treatment has failed. Isis Hospital pregnancy success rates compare favourably or surpass those achieved by IVF clinics worldwide.

Intracytoplasmic injection – or ICSI – is performed routinely with every IVF procedure. Sperm is viewed under a high-powered microscope allowing the embryologist to select the best quality sperm for injection into each egg. ICSI assists clients where there is a lower than normal sperm count or high level of abnormally shaped sperm.

K-systems workstation
Our K-systems workstation provides the most suitable platform to handle eggs, sperm and embryos. ICSI machine with Olympus microscope placed on the anti-vibration table gives the best working conditions to achieve the best outcome with minimal disturbance to eggs, sperm and embryos.

Sterile working conditions
Carbon dioxide and triple gas incubators are used for embryo culture. Our laboratory is quipped with a high quality air purification system to ensure the most sterile working environment.

Spindle view technology
Spindle view technology helps to protect eggs from damage and allows our embryologist to assess oocyte (egg) characteristics in minute detail and choose the best quality eggs for injection with sperm. This gives us fantastic fertilization rates and clients a greater chance of pregnancy.

Assisted laser hatching –
Our embryologist uses a fine, high-powered laser to drill a small hole in the zona (shell) of the embryo. This does not hurt the embryo, and may assist embryos to hatch from their shells. Laser hatching can improve implantation rates in cases where embryos are created with eggs from mature mothers - in which case the embryo shell is thought to be tougher - and with embryos that have been frozen and thawed.

Security screening of eggs, sperm and embryos
Embryo and sperm samples are triple checked and labeled prior to storage in cryocans that are regularly topped up with liquid nitrogen. Sperm and embryo samples are double-checked by our embryologists to ensure the correct samples are used. Samples are then checked by our senior embryologist, IVF physician and nurse-in-charge, prior to embryo transfer or use during ICSI.

Isis Hospital’s operating theatre is located next to the embryology laboratory. During egg collection oocytes are passed directly from the operating theatre to the embryology laboratory’s nurse-in-charge. Eggs are stored in tubes and are left to settle while sperm is prepared. Only one set of eggs and one sample of sperm are handled at any one time so there is no possibility that eggs or sperm intended for one client can be confused with eggs and sperm intended for another client.
